SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Looking for Joe and Jennifer Montana at sophisticated soirees? Sitting courtside, or in box seats at the games? Well, Montana watchers had better appreciate the great outdoors if they want to get a glimpse of this NFL power couple.

Joe and Jennifer divide their time between Napa and San Francisco and manage to connect with nature in both places.

In Napa, think horses, stables and wine.

At one time, the couple stabled some 30 jumping and cutting horses on their Napa ranch. The whole family rode. Joe took up western riding back in 1996 and competed as an amateur “cutter.” Jennifer, no stranger to the show ring, was a “jumper.”

In 1997, the former quarterback got the idea to create a family Cabernet Sauvignon, and gave it the name, ‘Montagia.’

Where are they now? Well, real estate rumors abound when it comes to this couple. Just Google “Joe Montana” and “Sell” and you’ll get a dozen stories. Jennifer set the record straight, though.

“We spend 30% of our time in Napa and about 70% in San Francisco,” says Jennifer.

And after all these years, the Montanas are still discovering places for hikes and nature walks in and around The City.

“We often take walks on the bluff south of the Golden Gate bridge,” said Jennifer. “Just last New Year’s we went up above for the first time.”

‘Up above’ would be the Marin Headlands. One would think with the family’s love of nature, the Headlands wouldn’t be such a recent discovery. Blame it on an embarrassment of riches.

“There are just so many places, more convenient,” says Jennifer. “It was our youngest son Nicolas who drew us there… so we tried.” It was breathtaking. She’s hopes to discover more unexplored trails in and around The City.

So, all you Montana watchers out there, get out and start hiking. You might spot Jennifer and Joe on a trail, near you.
